Chinese pharmaceutical giant Sinopharm has already vaccinated about a million people against the coronavirus in China, according to a statement posted by the company on Wechat.
The vaccine has already been used on almost one million people through a so-called emergency program, chief executive Liu Jingzhen was cited as saying in an interview.
There have been no reports of serious side effects, “only a few (people) have mild symptoms,” Liu Jingzhen said.
For weeks, Chinese state media have been reporting on the vaccination of certain groups of the population like health workers or military personnel but also diplomats and public officials.
They are administered vaccine candidates for which clinical trials have not been completed.
According to the statement, Sinopharm has already conducted international Phase III trials of its vaccine in 10 countries including United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Peru and Argentina.
The novel coronavirus Sars-CoV-2 was first detected in the Chinese province Wuhan in December last year.
